Books
Here's a list of some books to peak your interest and help you to
practice your crochet skills. It is by no means a comprehensive list. It's not even a
complete list of everything I personally own. It's just a beginning, a starting point.
Here are three books I recently purchased
to help in teaching as they were recommended by
Crochet with Dee
How to Crochet (The National
Needlework Association) (TNNA)
I Can Crochet (Annie's Attic)
Crochet Made Easy (Coats and Clark)
***
The Crochet Answer Book by Edie Eckman
I haven't read the entire book as this is a fairly new purchase, but what I
have read I've liked.
101 Crochet Squares by Jean
Leinhauser
Scrumptious square patterns, excellent for exchanges! A book I use over and over!
Afghan Favorites (The Needlecraft Shop)
Coral Waves is the pattern I've used most in this one.
7 Day Afghans by Rita Weiss
Afghans for All Seasons
Afghans on the Double
(Leisure Arts/Oxmoor House)
This is a book of multiple strand projects. Remember that you don't
HAVE to use multiple strands. Just keep in mind that your project will be smaller if you
change to one strand.
Camel Crochet by Naka Pillman
Creative Crochet in a Day (The
Needlecraft Shop)
Many small projects, but also shawls, afghans and such.
Crochet for Caring and Sharing, edited
by Carol Alexander
Patterns for gift items, from small things like bibs and socks to large
afghans
The Crochet Stitch Bible by Betty
Barnden (smallish hardcover)
Nice illustrations, includes multiples, written instructions as well as
diagrams with symbols
The Crochet Yearbook
This is a fairly new book with wonderful hints and stitch tutorials and lots of
patterns. It is designed like 4 magazines in one book using seasons as the focal point of
each "issue".
The Crocheter's Companion by Nancy Brown
This is a great little book, and I do mean little. It's about 5' x 7", good
size to throw in your purse or a tote bage. It has all the basic information
plus more. For a beginning crocheter, I think this would be an invaluable asset.
The Crocheter's Quilt Book by Elyse
Sommer
Crocheted afghans with quilt motifs
Crocheting in Plain English by Maggie Righetti
Excellent reference book for crochet. I highly recommend it!
Donna Kooler's Encyclopedia of Crochet
Also a wonderful reference and because it is all crochet, much more
information than the GH book.
Lots of color. A whole section of stitches, with pictures and symbols. Right and
left handed info.
The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Book
of Needlecrafts
Great reference book and includes many crafts, not just crochet.
Mile-a-Minute Afghans (Leisure Arts/Oxmoor House)
My favorite pattern in this book is Restful Rainbow.
It's simple to make and looks like
it took a lot of work! Excellent gift! :-)
Quick & Cozy Afghans
This is probably the afghan pattern book I have used most.)
Ultimate Book of Scrap Afghans (American
School of Needlework)
My favorite in this one is Bright Memories. My husband took a picture of me
holding the afghan I made with this pattern and printed it up like a TV Guide
cover. LOL
The Vanna Books (Leisure Arts/Oxmoor
House)
Vanna's Afghans A to Z
Vanna's Favorite Gift Afghans
Vanna's Favorite Crochet Gifts
Vanna's Afghans All Through the House
Vanna's Choice Color It Beautiful Afghans
Vanna's Choice Heartfelt Gifts (knit and crochet)
Weekend Afghans by Jean Leinhauser and
Rita Weiss
Lots of wonderful patterns you can work up quickly.
This is a dynamite duo for creating workable patterns.
Year of Afghans
This is actually a series of books.
Flower Books
Beautiful Blossoms Afghans (crochet) Annie's Attic 873111
Favorite Flower Afghan (crochet) Annie's Attic 872516
99 Floral Motifs to Crochet - Leisure Arts
by Belinda
"Bendy" Carter
Curling Ribbon Home Accents

Crochet on the Edge
Here's the books on my wish list.
The Crocheting School
100 Afghans to Knit and Crochet by Jean Leinhauser
