Nonyghans

These cute little Nonyghans are my own design, though based on the bearghans at Suzy Rigby's tiny Baby's First Teddy Bear Aunt B's Teddy Bear Blanket, and Pat Liles' Bearghan. I adapted the patterns with permission from Aunt B, Suzy, and Pat.

Nonyghans are made with plain old granny squares. All the squares are the same shape. You add eyes, ears, muzzle, nose, and a mouth. My squares were 14" and the teddy was 52" tall with a 41" arm span.  The Nonyghan was originally supposed to be puppy dogs, but the reviews were mixed. My husband said it looked like an Ewok. The long eared one my daughter thought looked like a flying squirrel. Your Nony can be whatever you or your child wants it to be.

The finished product is different from any of the above teddy bears. You can make them any color though of course bears are black, brown, and white normally. As you can see, I  made a peach one first, and there's a purple one too. The browns vary. However, the pattern stays the same. The solid squares are legs, the center square is the tummy, the two arms have a stripe of color. There are two options for the face. You can make it solid or with a small colored square in the center to help center the muzzle. That's my preference, but it may not be yours.

I haven't made a black one yet, but know some people do collect panda bears so that's a thought.

The Nonyghan is constantly being changed and I hope improved. I give lots of options. Hair or no hair, two or three colors for the eyes, long or short ears. I like them all. :-)

Colors in the pictures are approximate. You know how Internet computer colors go. It's hard to get accurate showing. Plus I sometimes have a faulty memory though I think these are correct.

Nonyghan Prequel :-)

Bernat Berella 4 soft peach and natural, two color eyes (black and white), short ears (they weren't triangles yet), and a different nose. No hair. Straight mouth because Nony wasn't sure about this look. Border is peach.

This was my first Nony. It was a charity donation.

Nony didn't keep this look long.

Nonyghan 2

Red Heart Super Saver warm brown and soft white, two color eyes (black and white), short ears, no hair, big smile. Nony's happy. Border is warm brown.

I wanted to make the Nonyghan easy for new crocheters, so I kept it to granny squares. The ears became granny triangles as did the nose. The muzzle and eyes are round, starting off like you might start a hat.

This one is put aside for my future grandkids. I think this is my favorite Nony thus far.

Nonyghan 3

The brown used here I think is Red Heart classic Coffee. It's a very dark brown. Nony 3 has short ears, no hair, and three color eyes (black, brown, and white) Border is brown.

Nonyghan 4

Red Heart classic mid brown, RH Super Saver buff, two color eyes (black and white), border is buff, short ears, no hair

Nonyghan 5 with ears but no hair

Patons Canadiana Walnut Brown, RH Super Saver buff, long ears, three color eyes (black, brown, and white) (note: my eyes are larger and closer together cos I did dc instead of hdc) Border is buff.

Then I decided to add hair - see below

Nonyghan 6

Nony 6 uses Patons Canadiana Mauve. I know. I didn't believe they named it that either. I combined it with white, added hair, short ears, two color eyes, and a wee bit of a smile. :-) Bordered the whole thing in white and voila! I completed the face and hair in one evening.

This ghan was created for Grayson.
