PICOT STITCH

Rule

Picot Stitch

A picot is essentially a loop made with chain stitches which gives a decorate edge to your piece, it can be made with any number of chains but the most common is ch-3

chain 3

slip stitch in 3rd chain from hook.

That's all there is to it. You've just completed a picot. :-) Doesn't look like much until you continue with your pattern.

Here's an example of one way to use the picot - from a Christmas wall hanging I made.

Another manner of working a picot is to work (sc, ch 2, sc) in the same stitch, I call that a picot also. It gives the same raised effect of the commonly used picot method. I don’t know if this would be acknowledged as a picot by others, but it is the term I use. I like to use this picot as edging on hats, afghans, and scarves. Whatever you call it, it’s a nice decorative edging.

You can change the look of this type of picot by adjusting the number of stitches skipped. Here are some examples.

In the first example, I skipped two. In the second example, I skipped one.
