HOW TO MAKE A REVERSIBLE GRANNY SQUARE

Rule

As I said, most granny squares are meant to be worked on the "right" side, without turning. However, some people like to turn their grannies, thus making them "reversible" in a sense.

ch 1, hdc in top chain of beginning ch-2 or 3

ch 2 or 3 (whatever you did before - keep it consistent) to bring to height

turn work so the back is now the front

add 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc (or whatever granny pattern you prefer) for your corner

continue as in the regular granny square pattern, working four corners of
(3dc, ch 3, 3 dc)

sc in top chain of beginning chain2 or 3 - this gives more space for your shell

chain 2 or 3 for height

turn work again, so that you are now back to your original front

2 dc in same space to make your first shell of that side and continue on as in a regular granny square
